Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6)

Education is a fundamental of life. Children must be taught how to survive and grow in our world. Just as children are taught math, English, and science they too should be taught about the Word of God. At Trinity the Word of God is taught just as it is at many other churches, through Sunday School and Confirmation.

Education began at Trinity after the finished construction of a new frame church in 1885. The old log church became a school house where the children of the congregation attended parochial day school taught by the church pastor. In 1910 a new one room parochial school was built by the congregation. From 1909 to 1915 the Christian Day School was taught in German in the morning and English in the afternoon. School was held 4 days a week until 1920, then 5 days a week until it was discontinued in 1924 when Reverend Gehrke left.

Saturday School classes replaced the Christian Day school in 1924. The pastor or seminary student taught all ages of children as one group in this Saturday morning class. In September 1954, Reverend Edwin C. Bek reorganized Saturday School. Lay persons taught classes of lower grade children and he taught grades 7 and 8. This Saturday School was from children of both Trinity and Grace congregations and alternated from one church to the other, at first by Saturday and later by semester. This arrangement continued until each congregation called its own pastor in 1970. At that time Reverend Schrader went back to the one class for all students during his pastorate. In 1976, Reverend Oesch again divided the children into classes according to school grade.

Vacation Bible School (VBS) is another very important section of Christian Education. VBS had been held intermittently from the 1950's to 1976. From 1976 through the early 1990's VBS was held annually for one week from 7 to 9 p.m. during June with worship, Bible Study, crafts, and music for the children. A Bible Study for adults was held in conjunction with VBS. Today, VBS is no longer held. However, Trinity will be looking in the future to reinstating VBS with the growing children population in the Church.

Other important Education programs are Confirmation and Sunday School. For more information about these programs visit their individual pages.
